SYV National Day of Prayer - FULL HOUSE at the Marriott
Posted: Saturday, May 3, 2014
By: Dave Retz (Expired article)Buellton, CA -
Santa Ynez Valley celebrated its third annual National Day of Prayer this month with over 330 people in attendance at the Marriott hotel for breakfast. This event featured five speakers that shared the effect of prayer in their lives, and directly addressed seven pillars of our society: Government, Church, Military, Family, Education, Media, and Business.
The event was organized by the Christian Business Men's Connection, a group of local men who meet regularly as part of a national movement. The event was also sponsored by a number of local businesses and individuals.
A new element was added in this year's event: the inclusion of the youth in the selection of speakers, featuring David Wagstaffe - a senior at Santa Ynez Valley Union High School. Other speakers included Lori Kennedy (business owner), Chris Chirgwin (business owner), Evie Sweeney (marketing director for a local winery), and Bob Rohrbough (retired businessman).
Unique to the Santa Ynez prayer breakfast
is the fact that the speakers are ordinary people - not pastors - who give their experience and testimony about the effect prayer has had in their life. In addition, this event is one of the only faith-based events that involve virtually all of the churches and congregations in the Santa Ynez Valley.
Some of the thoughts that were shared during the presentations were:
Shown in photo: Lori Kennedy, Chris Chirgwin, Bob Rohrbough, Evie Sweeney, and David Wagstaffe.
- "When I was little, I prayed about little things, like help in not sneezing during a concert. When I got older, I found my prayers applied to bigger things in life."
- "Prayer is a dialog, not a monologue."
- "I've experienced answers to prayer that, in retrospect, seem like miracles."
DVD's of the event may be ordered at a nominal fee of $10 by May 20, 2014. To obtain an order form, send email request to: Richmond Productions.
