Solvang, CA -

Local author James Wapotich will share images and stories from the Condor Trail on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 3:00pm at the Wildling Museum (1511-B Mission Drive, Solvang).

The Condor Trail is a 421-mile thru-hike route that traverses the southern and northern portions of the Los Padres National Forest. The route utilizes existing trails and roads, and showcases some of the best trails within our local backcountry. Wapotich has hiked and backpacked along the 185-mile section of the trail that passes through Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties. Starting from Lake Piru in the south, Condor Trail passes through the Sespe, Dick Smith, and San Rafael Wildernesses on its way to San Luis Obispo County. Along the trail one can find waterfalls, mountain peaks, quiet potreros, hot springs, Chumash village sites, and old homesteads left by pioneers.

Wapotich is a Volunteer Wilderness Ranger with the Forest Service and the author of the Santa Barbara News-Press hiking column, Trail Quest.

He will answer questions about the Condor Trail and hiking locally in this casual and informative presentation that starts at 3:00pm.

The Wildling Museum, where art and nature meet, offers visitors a unique perspective on the importance of preserving our natural heritage. Through the eyes of artists, education and field experiences, guests can renew their relationship with the wilderness and understand its fragile nature - hopefully leaving more committed toward ensuring those spaces remain for future generations. For more information, to volunteer and/or join as a member to support this important local arts and nature institution please visit, call 805-688-1082, or email The Museum is located at 1511-B Mission Drive, Solvang, California. The Museum is open from 11:00am to 5:00pm Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. On Saturday and Sunday the Museum is open from 10:00am to 5:00pm. The Museum is closed Tuesday.
